Who gets the money from OSHA fines?

When an employer who violates the law pays the penalties associated with a citation, OSHA does not receive a penny from the fine. Any penalties that OSHA collects from within its jurisdiction are paid directly into the general fund of the U.S. Treasury, as required by Section 17 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. OSHA’s budget does not come from the penalties it collects, but rather from federal appropriations approved every year by Congress.
